Hand Tools :

The fire service uses virtually every hand tool created in the performance of its duties.  Firefighters use shovels, rakes, hammers, pliers, socket sets and all of the common hand tools.  Specialized tools also exist just for firefighters.  These include tools like the Pulaski which is designed for wildland firefighting or a drywall rake which is used to pull ceilings when operating at structure fire.  Most firefighters also carry a Halligan up named after FDNY Capt. Mike Halligan. This device has a multitude of uses for firefighters gaining access to and egress from structures.  Care and maintenance of these tools is also important within every department.
