The fire service uses a wide variety of helmets in the performance of its duties.  Most commonly known is the structural firefighting helmet of which there are approximately 15 common versions.  These helmets are made from a variety of materials with the predominant ones being poly carbonate and leather. Specialized helmets for urban search and rescue uses are also commonly found.
