Firefighter turnout gear includes several categories of a structural firefighting ensemble. Firefighting turnout gear is especially made to meet NFPA and OSHA standards for reliability and maximum protection of the firefighter from thermal injury.  This gear is generally composed of several layers which provide a firefighter protection from direct flame for a very short period of time and high heat by the deflection and or absorption of this heat energy.  Included in this gear are pants, jacket, hood, helmet, gloves and footwear.
